Kashmir Day – 5th February 2025: A Struggle for Justice and Peace

Every year on February 5th, Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed to express unwavering support for the people of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. This day is a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people in their decades-long struggle for self-determination. Despite numerous resolutions passed by the United Nations (UN), the people of Kashmir are still deprived of their fundamental rights, facing oppression and human rights violations.

The Plight of Occupied Kashmir

Maqboza (occupied) Kashmir remains one of the most militarized regions in the world. Since 1947, the people of Kashmir have been living under a brutal military occupation. The revocation of Article 370 in August 2019 further escalated tensions, stripping the region of its special status and exposing its residents to severe restrictions. Arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings continue to be the reality for Kashmiri civilians.

Despite global awareness and international organizations voicing concerns, justice remains elusive. The region continues to suffer under the suppression of its people’s voices, with media blackouts and communication restrictions preventing the world from fully realizing the extent of the crisis.

Why Has the Kashmir Resolution Not Been Implemented?

The UN Security Council passed multiple resolutions, including Resolution 47 in 1948, which called for a plebiscite allowing the people of Kashmir to determine their own future. However, India has continuously defied these resolutions, refusing to hold a fair and transparent referendum. The lack of international pressure and political interests of major world powers have further delayed justice for Kashmiris.

The failure to implement the UN resolutions highlights the double standards in global politics, where strategic alliances and economic benefits overshadow human rights concerns. It is imperative that the international community moves beyond rhetoric and takes concrete steps to ensure the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir.

War is Never the Solution

History has shown that war only leads to destruction and suffering. Conflicts between nuclear-armed nations like India and Pakistan pose a serious threat to regional and global stability. Military confrontations in the past have only worsened the situation for innocent civilians, leading to loss of lives, economic downfall, and increased animosity between nations.

The only viable solution to the Kashmir issue lies in diplomacy and dialogue. Peace talks, involving all stakeholders, including Kashmiri representatives, must be prioritized to ensure a just resolution. The international community must mediate and facilitate meaningful negotiations that uphold the right to self-determination.

A Call for Justice

On this Kashmir Day, the world must reaffirm its commitment to justice and human rights. The voices of Kashmiris cannot be ignored any longer. It is the responsibility of global leaders to stand against oppression and advocate for a peaceful resolution based on justice, fairness, and humanity. The people of Kashmir deserve to live with dignity, free from oppression and fear. It is time to translate solidarity into action, ensuring that Kashmiris finally achieve the freedom they have long been fighting for.
